Jetset Jingles :: R+R

jetset jingles + rest and relaxation music[trip style = weekend getaway + sun]

{Editor’s Note: Have you entered this week’s petite porta-perfume giveaway? It takes 20 seconds or less, and all you have to do is comment on any TS post.}

Rest and relaxation: two requirements that are always high on my list when it comes to vacationing. Some escapes are busier than others:  there’s trip style = sightseeing that has you going to and fro, taking in all there is to see at your destination; the action-packed trip style = active & adventure that has you climbing mountains or furiously paddling down a roaring river; or the trip style = urban weekend getaway that has you wining and dining in fast-paced cityscapes. While these kind of trip styles are eye-opening and exhilarating, sometimes you need a change of pace from the go, go, go to a relaxing, do-nothing-and-sit-in-your-hammock kind of vacation.

The playlist I created this month compliments the kicked-back and relaxed trip style I’m talking about….the kind of trip that has you sitting back with your feet up, unwinding from your hectic everyday schedule and enjoying the summer scenery.

Whether you’re lounging lakeside, unwinding poolside or sprawled out on your hammock, these chill out tunes will have you rested and relaxed in no time.

Happy listening.

Playing Frisbee at the park, chasing an ice cream truck down the street, cruising the city on your bike, or sipping an ice cold drink on a patio---whatever your summer staycation of choice may be---the music below will put a smile on your face and get you pumped for some fun in the sun.

Jetset Jingles :: Camping

a camping music playlist[trip style = camping]

Summer just came a knocking at my door, and that means warm weather, long days, and my favorite kind of quick summer getaway: camping. There’s nothing like rounding up a group of friends or the fam, packing up the car and hitting the road to find the perfect campsite.

Along with a tent, a Coleman stove and bug spray, you can't go camping without music. Nothing beats sitting around the campfire relaxing to someone strumming your favorite lazy-day tunes on a guitar. But if you’re anything like me and can’t actually play the guitar, I’ve created the ultimate camping playlist for you to take with you on your next venture into the great outdoors.

I can almost smell the marshmallows roasting... Happy Listening.

Jetset Jingles :: Australia

australia music {Editor's Note: I just got back from Australia and can't wait to share pics, trip styles and tips every Friday this month. To kick things off, May's Jetset Jingles features tunes from a few familiar artists, all hailing from Oz.}

Australia: known for its Great Barrier Reef, Sydney Harbour, Kangaroos and Koalas, Crocodile Dundee and home to AC/DC, Kylie Minogue, Keith Urban, INXS, Empire of the Sun and other musical talents. Hits like “Don’t Dream It’s Over” (Crowded House), “New Sensation” (INXS), “Highway to Hell” (AC/DC) and the classic 80’s pop-aerobic “Physical” (Olivia Newton John) all blasted their way up and out from the land Down Under and became worldwide hits. And who can forget Men at Work’s “Down Under”? It’s such an iconic Oz tune that we could almost call it Australia’s unofficial theme song. Today, Australian artists such as Jessica Mauboy, Birds Of Tokyo, Jebidiah, The Potbelleez, Angus & Julia Stone and The Temper Trap are hitting the Australian Charts as well as carrying on the tradition of iconic Aussi sound all over the globe.

If you can’t escape to Oz right away, why not pretend? Head down to your nearest beach, toss some shrimp on the barbie, throw a boomerang (don’t forget to duck…) and blast the Aussi playlist I created below. With a mix of classic Oz hits and current singles, you’ll feel like you’ve just taken you’re very own getaway. Happy Listening.

1. Down Under - The Best of Men at Work: Contraband 2. Disappear - The Best of INXS 3. Something So Strong - null 4. Get Outta My Way - Aphrodite (Deluxe Experience Edition) 5. Somebody Like You - null 6. Hello (Radio Edit) - Hello - Single 7. Standing On the Shore - Walking On a Dream 8. Love Lost - Conditions 9. Contact High - Moment Bends 10. Plans - Birds Of Tokyo 11. Big Jet Plane - Down the Way

Jetset Jingles :: Coachella

coachella music mix[trip style = sun]

It’s April and that means two things: spring is here and so is the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Nestled in the heart of the Coachella Valley near Palm Springs, California, the 3-day music festival is one of the most well known in North America. Held in mid-April {when the weather’s just right}, the festival is not only celebrated for its amazingly diverse and abundant music, but also for its interactive art installations and sculptures.

I traveled to Coachella for the first time last year and couldn’t believe that for just over $300, I got to see some of the best musical talents of 2010. All in one place. Not only was the music, setting and warm weather enough to make a Vancouver gal pretty happy, but the people watching was not to be believed. Everyone from college hipsters, to middle-aged hippies, to Hollywood celebrities {and everyone in between} were there for the same reason: to see of-the-moment artists performing their favorite tunes.

This year, I’ll be front and center watching and dancing to some of my favorite acts like Kings of Leon, The Black Keys, Arcade Fire, Empire of the Sun, Cee Lo Green, Broken Social Scene, Tinie Tempah, Chromeo, Wiz Khalifa, Brandon Flowers, Cut Copy, Mumford and Sons, Robyn and Kanye West. ...Ok, so I named more than a few. But I can’t help it, I’m that excited.

I've put together a small Coachella playlist of my current favorite songs from some of the artists I'm most looking forward to seeing. Happy Listening.

1/ The Cave - Sigh No More - mumford & sons 2/ We Used to Wait - The Suburbs - Arcade Fire 3/ Howlin' for You - Null - The Black Keys 4/ Radioactive - Come Around Sundown (Extended Version) - KINGS of Leon 5/ Walking On a Dream - Walking on a Dream - Empire of the Sun 6/ Take Me Over - Zonoscope - Cut Copy 7/ Dancing On My Own - null - robyn 8/ Fancy Footwork - Fancy Footwork - Chromeo 9/ Only the Young - Flamingo - Brandon Flowers 10/ Sweetest Kill - Forgiveness Rock Record - Broken Social Scene
